Blitz Supports Record-Breaking Medical Convention

Last month, the largest medical convention ever staged in the UK’s capital city took place at ExCeL London, bringing with it an estimated £30 million boost for the local economy.

Over five days, Gastro 2009 - UEGW/WCOG London - attracted in excess of 13,000 delegates each day, including leading global experts and practitioners in the field of gastro-enterology. Attendees convened at ExCeL London to share ideas, make contacts and learn about the latest developments and innovations in this field of medicine.

James Rees, director of conferences & events at ExCeL London, said “Gastro 2009 was a hugely important convention for us, highlighting ExCeL London’s capabilities as a world-class, international venue and demonstrating the city’s power to attract record delegate numbers. The event was the first convention where we have worked with the full support of Visit London, the Greater London Authority, and The Mayor’s Office, to ensure that delegates received a fantastic welcome to the capital and experienced the very best of what London has to offer".

“The success of this partnership, coupled with the opening of London’s first international convention centre at ExCeL on 1 May 2010, will enable us to bring further economic benefit to the city from a market estimated to be £100 billion annually.”
