14.02.12 | Blitz helps Coca-Cola Create the Extraordinary
14/02/2012
Blitz is extremely proud to be amongst the first AV companies to work at the London Olympic Park.
As part of their 2012 sponsorship package, Coca Cola Enterprises (CCE) were given permission to stage an event for 3,000 of their employees at the newly constructed Velodrome, one of the first Olympic venues to be completed. Designed by FPP and produced by Rocket Science, the event was based on the theme of ‘Creating the Extraordinary’, and took place on 5th January 2012. Paul Hutton, Managing Director at Blitz, worked closely with the event team as technical consultant for the project.
Staged in the in-field area (inside the track), Blitz provided the video, audio and lighting equipment for the production. Fulfilling the video requirements, the presentations and entertainment were relayed to an audience of 3,000 via two 20m2 9mm LED screens, sourced from a digital video playback system, and a combination of fixed and radio HD cameras, all controlled by a Barco Encore switching system. The acoustic challenges imposed by this cavernous space were met using four D&B Q1 line array systems, in conjunction with a number of smaller directional speakers. The extensive use of radio microphones even included the cyclists and on-track demonstrations. Spectacular lighting was provided by a number of 20K lumen moving fixtures, and effects units.
Paul commented: “Delivering a spectacular event, whilst working within the constraints imposed by LOCOG, was certainly not without challenges. Diplomacy was as much a requirement as technical knowledge, but we got there in the end and put on a fabulous show!”
In addition to being amongst the most prestigious events ever staged by CCE, it also gave LOCOG the chance to put the Velodrome through its paces under the environment of an official ‘test event’. The production ran flawlessly, and all parties were delighted with the final result.
